Everyone knows the age old saying that “comparison is the thief of joy”, but who actually takes that to heart. I know for myself, I am constantly comparing myself to everyone else and not in the “Oooo I”m better than you” way, but in the “wow, what am I doing with my life” kinda way.
This year, I’m really trying to change my mentality around myself and see my life and others as completely separate. Over the last 31 years, I have constantly played the comparison game in my head and it’s time that it stops. My hope for any of you reading this is that you also stop playing the comparison game because it never leads to a better reality.
From looks, to weight, profession, workouts….you name it, I have compared myself to someone I know and sometimes people I have never met. Although it’s embarrassing to admit, I would argue that a lot of people do the same. It’s human nature to compare but at some point it just becomes unproductive and for myself can lead to a mental downward spiral or self loathing that usually lasts longer than I would like to admit.
EVERYONE has a different experience in this life and that is the best part of being an individual (something that we all need to remember). It’s okay to live your experience, make. your own goals, accomplish. your dreams and do things completely differently than someone else. We each bring our own special talents to the world and it’s okay if your talents are different than those around you, that’s what makes us human.
“Comparison is the thief of joy”…it really is and continues to be, so what are you doing today to change your mindset? Let’s start a discussion in the comments ❤
